About Phyllodactylus nocticolus Dixon, 1964
The peninsula leaf-toed gecko, scientifically known as Phyllodactylus nocticolus, is a medium-sized gecko species. It is distributed in southern California, United States, and the Baja California Peninsula, Mexico. Its range also includes many islands in the Gulf of California, plus Islas Magdalena and Santa Margarita off the west coast of Baja California Sur. In California, this gecko only occupies a small portion of the state. It is abundant from the U.S.-Mexico border, through Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, to an area just north of Palm Springs. It can be found throughout the entire length of the Baja California peninsula. This species inhabits areas with desert shrubs and large open rocks. It also lives in desert chaparral, and can often be found in small crevices or on large bare rocks.
