Phyllocnistis insignis is a moth species that belongs to the family Gracillariidae. It can be found throughout the United States, with confirmed records in Maine, Illinois, Ohio, Maryland, Michigan, Kentucky, Missouri, Texas, Georgia, Florida, and California. Known host plants for this moth are Arnoglossum muehlenbergii, Erechtites hieracifolia, Prenanthes alba, and Packera aurea. Larvae of Phyllocnistis insignis create mines within the leaves of their host plants. These leaf mines take the form of long, narrow, linear, winding tracks located on the upper surface of the leaf.
