Phyllidia elegans Bergh, 1869 can be distinguished by several physical features. Its foot is pale-coloured, with a single median longitudinal black line on the sole, and additional black lines along the lateral margins of the sole. Its dorsal tubercles are light pink, and are most commonly tipped in yellow. This species has been recorded in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Andaman Sea, Myanmar, the Red Sea, the Mariana Islands, north Sulawesi, Vanuatu, and Papua New Guinea.
