Phrynops williamsi, a species described by Rhodin & Mittermeier in 1983, is a turtle species belonging to the family Chelidae. It has several common names, including Williams' side-necked turtle, Williams' South American sideneck turtle, Williams' South American side-necked turtle, Williams' toadhead turtle, and William's toadhead turtle (the latter two with a commonly seen spelling error in the possessive form). This species is endemic to South America. Its geographic range covers southeastern Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina. The preferred natural habitat of Phrynops williamsi is freshwater wetlands, located at altitudes between 80 meters (260 feet) and 1,000 meters (3,280 feet).
