Phrynops geoffroanus (Schweigger, 1812) is a large side-necked turtle species in the family Chelidae. It has two common names: Geoffroy's side-necked turtle and Geoffroy's toadhead turtle. This species is endemic to South America. Its geographic range extends across southwestern Venezuela, southeastern Colombia, eastern Ecuador, and eastern Peru, then south and east through southwestern Brazil and northern Bolivia to Paraguay and northeastern Argentina, before extending north through eastern Brazil. It is also found in eastern Venezuela and adjacent Guyana. The preferred natural habitat of Phrynops geoffroanus is freshwater rivers.
