The Natal dwarf puddle frog, scientifically named Phrynobatrachus natalensis (Smith, 1849), is a small frog with a rounded snout and warty skin. Adults reach a snout-to-vent length of approximately 25 to 31 mm (1.0 to 1.2 in). Its digits do not have enlarged tips, and its fingers are unwebbed. The dorsal (upper) surface is uniformly greenish or brownish, with slightly darker colouring around the warts, and the belly is whitish. During the breeding season, breeding males have a prominent black vocal sac on the throat that is marked with white spots.
