About Phoxinus septimaniae Kottelat, 2007

Phoxinus septimaniae can be distinguished from other European minnows by having continuous scale patches across its breast and a lateral line that extends to the base of the anal fin. It has an indistinct stripe running along its sides, and its upper body is golden bronze with a small number of dark vermiculations. The maximum recorded standard length for this species is 6.4 cm (2.5 in).

Phoxinus septimaniae is native to southwestern Europe, where it occurs in rivers that drain into the Mediterranean Sea, from the Rhône River south to the Ravane River. It is also present in northeastern Spain, where it may be native. Introduced populations of this fish have been established in Italy, France, and Germany. It lives in small streams with cold, oxygen-rich, clear water, over substrates ranging from gravel to stone.
