Photuris frontalis, a species of firefly described by LeConte in 1852, is a synchronous-flashing firefly belonging to the beetle family Lampyridae. This species lives in isolated, distinct sub-populations distributed across most of the Eastern United States. It ranges from cypress wetlands in Florida to semi-xeric pine-oak-hickory woodlands in Delaware. In some locations, especially several state and national parks, Photuris frontalis is locally abundant, and its mating displays are a growing tourist attraction.
