Photedes defecta, commonly known as the narrow-winged borer, is a moth species belonging to the family Noctuidae. This species was first formally described by Augustus Radcliffe Grote in 1874. Its distribution in North America ranges from Maryland and Massachusetts in the east, north to New Brunswick, and west to North Dakota and British Columbia. The wingspan of this moth measures 25 to 27 mm. Adult individuals are active from July through September. The species typically has one generation per year, though a smaller second brood may occur between mid and late September.
