About Pholistoma membranaceum (Benth.) Constance
Pholistoma membranaceum is an annual herb. It has a waxy, fleshy, bristly stem that reaches up to 90 centimeters long, branches profusely, and sometimes forms a tangled mass. Its leaves are deeply lobed or cut, and grow from winged petioles. All foliage is covered in hairs. The plant produces inflorescences in the form of cymes holding 2 to 10 flowers; each flower is less than one centimeter wide. Each flower's pedicel measures 5 to 20 millimeters (0.2 to 0.8 inches). The calyx lobes are oblong and measure 1 to 3 millimeters (0.04 to 0.12 inches). The flower itself is white, and typically bears a purple spot or streak on each of its five lobes.
