About Phlox nivalis G.Lodd. ex Sweet

Phlox nivalis G.Lodd. ex Sweet is a species of flowering plant belonging to the Polemoniaceae family. Its common names are trailing phlox and pineland phlox. This species is native to the southeastern United States, as well as the states of Texas, Michigan, and Utah. One of its subspecies is Phlox nivalis subsp. texensis, which goes by the common names Texas trailing phlox or Texan phlox. This subspecies is a rare plant that is federally listed as an endangered species in the United States. It is endemic to Texas, and its wild populations are only found in three counties there. This subspecies was once believed to be extinct, and it was rediscovered in 1972.
