About Phlegra bresnieri (Lucas, 1846)
Phlegra bresnieri is a species of jumping spider belonging to the family Salticidae. Its specific epithet bresnieri honors 19th-century French Arabist Louis-Jacques Bresnier. This species occurs mainly from southern Europe as far east as Azerbaijan, and is also found in Ivory Coast and Tanzania. Adult Phlegra bresnieri reach approximately 4–5 millimetres (0.16–0.20 inches) in length. In males of this species, the carapace is elongated and colored dark brown or dark grey, with two wide white longitudinal stripes that run from the eyes to the posterior edge. The clypeus is yellowish and completely covered in white hairs. The hairy abdomen is dark brown, long and slender, with one median white stripe and two lateral white stripes. The chelicerae are light brown, while the sternum is dark brown. The pedipalps are brown and covered in black hairs. These spiders have eight eyes; they have very large anterior median eyes, with smaller eyes positioned on each side. Their eyesight is excellent.
