About Philopotamus montanus (Donovan, 1813)

Philopotamus montanus (Donovan, 1813) is a species of medium-sized caddisfly. Adults of this species reach a body length of approximately 4โ€“9 mm (0.16โ€“0.35 in), and have a wingspan of around 12โ€“20 mm (0.47โ€“0.79 in). These caddisflies are typically light brown or yellowish, and have many dark brown spots. This species is native to Europe, and its range spans the entire continent, extending eastward into Northwestern and Northern Russia. Its aquatic life stages occur primarily in small upland rivers, brooks, rivulets, and stony streams that often contain rapids, because the species prefers habitats with high current velocities.
