About Philoponella congregabilis (Rainbow, 1916)

This species has the scientific name Philoponella congregabilis (Rainbow, 1916). Males of this spider grow up to 3.5 millimetres (1⁄8 inch) long, while females reach 6 millimetres (1⁄4 inch) long. Their body colour ranges from pale cream to darker shades of orange or brown. A prominent hump is present on the abdomen. This spider is native to New South Wales. As of 18 January 2021, P. congregabilis is one of 73 established spider species in New Zealand, 50 of which are Australian species. It has been introduced to the Christchurch area of New Zealand.
