About Pherbellia schoenherri (Fallén, 1826)
Pherbellia schoenherri (Fallén, 1826) is a species of fly in the family Sciomyzidae. This species is found in the Palearctic realm. Adults reach 4–5 mm in length. For P. schoenherri, the grey ocellar plate is extended into a narrow triangle that reaches almost to the base of the antenna. Prescutellar acrostichal bristles are either reduced in size or absent entirely. The patterned wings have a costal vein that bears a series of protruding spinules that are distinct from the fly's bristles. Females of this species lay their eggs on the shells of snails in the family Succineidae, including Succinea putris. After hatching, the larvae consume the snail and then pupate inside the empty snail shell. P. schoenherri is a very common, widespread species with an extremely long flight period. It flies primarily from April to October, but it can be found year-round in most European countries. It occurs in a very wide variety of both dry and moist habitats.
