About Phelsuma lineata Gray, 1842

The lined day gecko, Phelsuma lineata Gray, 1842, commonly reaches a total length of 4–6 inches (10–15 cm) when the tail is included. Males of this species are more colorful than females: they have a medium-green base body color, red splotches on the lower back and head, and a brown to black lateral band running along each side of the body. Their tails may appear blue, and their underside is a pale shade. This gecko lives in the humid subtropical climatic zones of northern and eastern Madagascar. The species and its subspecies occupy both low-elevation and mid-elevation sites along the island's east coast. Phelsuma lineata is oviparous.
