About Phelotrupes auratus (Motschulsky, 1857)

This species of beetle, Phelotrupes auratus (Motschulsky, 1857), has a body length between 15 and 21 millimeters, with an oblong-oval body shape. Its clypeus extends forward, and the longitudinal groove on its pronotum is well developed. In males, the fore tibiae bear several spines that differ only slightly from one another in length. The elytra feature strongly developed grooves. The beetles have bright coloration with a strong metallic sheen, which ranges from golden-green to violet-purple. Their antennae have 11 segments total, with the three terminal segments being flabellate. Phelotrupes auratus is distributed across eastern China, North Korea, South Korea, and the whole of Japan.
