About Phellopsis obcordata (Kirby, 1837)

Phellopsis obcordata (Kirby, 1837) is a species of beetle that belongs to the family Zopheridae, and is found in eastern North America. Individuals of this species range in color from reddish to brown. Their typical length measures 11/16 mm. Historically, Phellopsis obcordata was consistently misidentified and confused with Phellopsis porcata, a nearly identical related species found in western North America. This confusion was resolved in 2008, when a taxonomic revision of the genus Phellopsis clarified the distinction between the two species.
