About Phellodon atratus K.A.Harrison

The cap of Phellodon atratus K.A.Harrison is dark violet to black, a colour that can sometimes make the fungus difficult to spot; the cap margins are usually a lighter shade. The cap measures 1.5โ€“5 centimetres (5โ„8โ€“2 inches) wide. The off-center stipe grows 1.5โ€“4.5 cm (1โ„2โ€“1+3โ„4 in) tall. The fungus's flesh is violet or blue-black, it has a mild smell, and it produces a white spore print. Its edibility is unknown, and it is too small and tough to be of interest as food. This species occurs most frequently near the Pacific coast, growing under Sitka spruce.
