About Phellinus pomaceus (Pers.) Maire

Phellinus pomaceus (Pers.) Maire is a plant pathogen that is especially common on Prunus species. It is not aggressively pathogenic, but it can cause considerable wood decay in trees that are already affected by other stress factors. This species can be found in Europe, as well as in parts of Asia, South America, and Africa. Historically, Phellinus pomaceus has been used for medicinal purposes, and it is currently the subject of research into its chemical and biological properties. It is a very long-lived conk fungus that can produce up to eighty annual growth rings.
