About Phelipanche ramosa (L.) Pomel
Phelipanche ramosa (L.) Pomel is also referred to by the synonym Orobanche ramosa, a broomrape species with the common names hemp broomrape and branched broomrape. It is native to Eurasia and North Africa, and has been introduced to many other regions, where it is sometimes classified as a noxious weed. It acts as an agricultural pest that infests crops including tobacco, potato, and tomato. This plant produces numerous slender, erect stems growing from a thick root. The yellowish stems reach 10 to 60 centimeters in height and are covered in glandular hairs. As a parasitic plant that draws nutrients from the roots of other host plants, it lacks both leaves and chlorophyll. Its inflorescence holds multiple flowers; each flower has a yellowish calyx made of sepals, and a tubular corolla that is white with blue to purple coloring.
