About Phaulernis dentella (Zeller, 1839)
Phaulernis dentella (Zeller, 1839) has a wingspan of 9–10 mm. Its forewings are blackish-brown, scattered with white scales, and bear a distinct tuft on the dorsum. This species produces one generation per year, with adults active on the wing in June; adults can occasionally be observed on the flowers of the larval foodplant. Larvae of Phaulernis dentella feed on the seeds of Pimpinella saxifrage (burnet-saxifrage), Chaerophyllum bulbosum (bulbous chervil), Chaerophyllum temulum (rough chervil), Aegopodium podagraria (ground elder), Heracleum sphondylium (hogweed), and Angelica sylvestris (wild angelica). Larvae are present from July to August. Phaulernis dentella is distributed across central and eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and western Siberia.
