About Phasianella ventricosa Swainson, 1822

The adult shell of Phasianella ventricosa ranges in length from 20 to 45 millimetres, or 0.79 to 1.77 inches. This shell is of medium weight and has rounded whorls, with a smooth and glossy surface. Its basic coloration is brick-red, marked with fawn or cream axial streaks as well as alternating brown and white spiral lines. Phasianella ventricosa is endemic to Australia, where it occurs from New South Wales to Western Australia and Tasmania. This species lives on kelp and beneath rocks on reefs at a depth of around 10 metres.
