About Pharus legumen (Linnaeus, 1758)

Pharus legumen (Linnaeus, 1758) can reach a maximum length of 130 millimeters, and has a characteristic bean-shaped shell. The shell’s base color ranges from white to light brown, and is covered by a periostracum that ranges from light olive to yellow in color. The right valve of the shell has one cardinal tooth, plus a short, peg-shaped posterior lateral tooth. The left valve has two elongated, closely spaced cardinal teeth, plus one posterior lateral tooth. This species is commonly found in the English Channel, the north-east Atlantic, and the Mediterranean Sea.
