About Phaps chalcoptera (Latham, 1790)

This species, the common bronzewing pigeon, has the scientific name Phaps chalcoptera (Latham, 1790). Males of the species have pale-yellow to yellow-white foreheads, and pink breasts. Both males and females have a clearly visible white line that runs around and close to their eyes. Common bronzewings also have patches of red, blue, and green on their wings, a characteristic feature shared by all bronzewing pigeons. Young birds are typically duller in color and browner than fully grown mature common bronzewings. Common bronzewings are rarely found far from a water source. They may travel alone, in pairs, or in flocks, and they are usually cautious, which makes it difficult for humans or other animals to approach them. On average, common bronzewings measure between 30 and 36 centimetres (12 to 14 inches) in total length.
