Phanera kockiana (Korth.) Benth. is a liana that belongs to the subfamily Cercidoideae of the bean family. It is native to the East Indies and the Malay Peninsula, and is commonly known as the climbing bauhinia. This species can grow to 30 meters (98 feet) or longer. Its leaves are lanceolate, with three major veins extending from the petiole to the leaf tip. When the flowers first open, they are yellow, and turn red after a couple of days.
