About Phalacrognathus muelleri (MacLeay, 1885)

Phalacrognathus muelleri is a species of stag beetle in the family Lucanidae. Male Phalacrognathus muelleri are the largest members of the Lucanidae family found in Australia. Males of this species measure between 24 and 70 millimeters (0.94 to 2.76 inches) in length. Females are smaller, with a body length ranging from 23 to 46 millimeters (0.91 to 1.81 inches). The species' distinctive beautiful coloration fades after the beetle dies, and the living color is difficult to capture in photographs.
