About Phacelia vallis-mortae J.W.Voss
Phacelia vallis-mortae is a species of flowering plant in the Hydrophyllaceae family, commonly known as Death Valley phacelia. It is native to the southwestern United States, where it grows in deserts including Death Valley, as well as scrub habitats on mountains, plateaus, and valleys. This species is an annual herb that reaches up to 60 centimeters in height, and produces a stem that may be either branching or unbranched. The entire plant is covered in a mix of soft and stiff hairs. Its leaves grow up to 8 centimeters long; most are compound, divided into smaller leaflets edged with teeth or lobes. The hairy inflorescence is a one-sided curving or coiling cyme made up of bell-shaped flowers. Each flower measures 1 to 1.5 centimeters long, is lavender or purple in color, and is surrounded by a calyx of narrow sepals covered in long hairs.
