About Phacelia saxicola A.Gray
Phacelia saxicola is a phacelia species with the common name stonecrop phacelia. It is native to deserts, hills, and mountain slopes in far eastern California, as well as adjacent areas of western Nevada and Arizona. This plant grows in woodland habitats, and in cracks within rocky limestone slopes located above deserts. It is an annual herb that grows upright or erect, reaching no more than 15 centimeters tall, and often stays smaller and more compact. The plant is glandular, and its many small branches are covered in short, stiff hairs. Its leaves are no longer than one centimeter, with fleshy blades that range from lance-shaped to bulbous oval, attached to short petioles. The hairy inflorescence is a one-sided curving or coiling cyme made up of small bell-shaped flowers. Each individual flower is only 3 to 4 millimeters long, and is light blue or purple with a whitish throat.
