About Phacelia procera A.Gray

Phacelia procera A.Gray is a species of phacelia with the common name tall phacelia. It is native to the northwestern United States, ranging south as far as the Sierra Nevada. It grows in mountainous habitats including forests, meadows, and talus. This is a perennial herb that grows an erect stem from a taproot, reaching a maximum height of around two meters. The entire plant has a hairy texture, with some black, glandular hairs present. Its leaves are lance-shaped or oval, up to 12 centimeters long, and have toothed or lobed edges. The inflorescence is a one-sided curving or coiling cyme made up of bell-shaped flowers. Each individual flower is under one centimeter long, and can be white, greenish, or brownish in color. The flower is surrounded by a calyx of pointed sepals covered in black glandular hairs.
