About Phacelia longipes Torr. ex A.Gray
Phacelia longipes Torr. ex A.Gray is an annual herb that grows either decumbent or erect, reaching a maximum length of around 40 centimeters. It is glandular, and lightly covered with a mix of soft and stiff hairs. Most of its leaves are located low on the plant, with toothed oval leaf blades attached to long petioles. The inflorescence is hairy and glandular, forming a one-sided curving or coiling cyme made up of bell-shaped flowers. Each flower is roughly one centimeter long, and ranges in color from white to light blue. It has a calyx made of linear sepals, plus five long, protruding stamens. This species is endemic to California, growing in the Transverse Ranges and the adjacent western Mojave Desert. It can be found in chaparral, woodland, and forest habitats that have rocky soils.
