About Phacelia hubbyi (J.F.Macbr.) Garrison

Phacelia hubbyi, which is also commonly called Hubby's phacelia, caterpillar phacelia, or caterpillar scorpionweed, is a plant species that is endemic to California. It occurs in the southern coastal California counties of Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, and Orange. The species typically grows in rocky or gravelly sites within chaparral, coastal scrub, or foothill grasslands. P. hubbyi was formerly classified as a subspecies of Phacelia cicutaria, and was formally recognized as a separate distinct species in 2009. It can be distinguished from related species by its more robust growth habit, denser inflorescences, lack of mottled markings on the corollas, and longer stamens and styles.
