About Phacelia austromontana J.T.Howell

Phacelia austromontana is a species of phacelia with the common name Southern Sierra phacelia. It is native to the southwestern United States, occurring in the Transverse Ranges and Sierra Nevada of California, extending eastward into Utah. It grows in open mountainous habitat. This plant is an annual herb that can grow either prostrate or upright, with a multibranched stem reaching a maximum length of around 27 centimeters. It is glandular, and covered in a mix of soft and coarse hairs. Its pointed leaves are lance-shaped to oval, 1 to 3 centimeters long, and have few or no lobes. The inflorescence is hairy and glandular, taking the form of a one-sided curving or coiling cyme that holds many bell-shaped flowers. Each flower is lavender or light blue in color, and does not grow longer than 6 millimeters.
