About Pexicopia malvella (Hübner, 1805)

Pexicopia malvella, commonly known as the hollyhock seed moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Gelechiidae. It was first described by Jacob Hübner in 1805. This species can be found across almost all of Europe. The wingspan of adult Pexicopia malvella ranges from 17 to 20 mm. Adult moths are active in flight from early June to mid-August each year. The larvae feed inside the seeds of plants from the genus Malva, as well as Althaea officinalis and Alcea rosea. This species overwinters inside a cocoon that it builds within the host seed.
