About Peucetia viridis (Blackwall, 1858)

Peucetia viridis (Blackwall, 1858), the green lynx spider, has been described from both male and female individuals. Like other green lynx spiders, it has bright green coloration, along with long, slender legs that bear prominent spines. This species has a very broad distribution: it is naturally found across Spain, Greece, the Canary Islands, Africa, and the Middle East, and has been introduced to Caribbean islands. In South Africa specifically, it has been recorded in eight provinces across a wide variety of habitats. It occupies multiple biomes, including Forest, Grassland, Nama Karoo, Savanna, Succulent Karoo, and Thicket, at altitudes between 24 and 1,341 meters above sea level. Peucetia viridis is a free-living spider that lives on vegetation. It has been collected from pistachio orchards, and has also been recorded growing on the unpalatable Kalahari sour grass (Schmidtia kalahariensis) at Tswalu Game Reserve.
