About Petrolisthes cinctipes (J.W.Randall, 1840)

Petrolisthes cinctipes (J.W. Randall, 1840) has a flat carapace that can reach up to 24 millimeters in diameter. Its body is most often dark blue-brown, and turns a more distinct bright blue during molting periods. The specific epithet cinctipes comes from Latin, meaning "banded legs", which refers to this species' blue legs marked with white bands. Compared to other sympatric Petrolisthes species, P. cinctipes can be distinguished by its dark red antennal flagellae, plus a distinct lobe with non-parallel margins located on the inner edge of its carpus.
