Petricia vernicina, commonly called the velvet seastar, is a species of sea star that belongs to the family Asteropseidae. This species is distributed in Australian waters, ranging from Caloundra in Queensland south to Tasmania, west to the Houtman Abrolhos (an island chain off Western Australia), and is also found at the Kermadec Islands. It inhabits ocean depths from the surface down to 60 metres, which is 197 feet. Its diet consists of lace coral, sea squirts, and sponges.
