About Petradoria pumila (Nutt.) Greene

Petradoria is a genus of North American subshrubs that belongs to the tribe Astereae of the plant family Asteraceae. The only known species in this genus is Petradoria pumila, which is commonly called rock goldenrod. This species is native to the western United States, specifically found in California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, and Idaho. It is quite common in some parts of its range, where it forms dense carpets of yellow blooms. One taxon previously classified in the Petradoria genus, Petradoria discoidea L.C.Anderson, is now reclassified as Cuniculotinus gramineus (H.M.Hall) Urbatsch, R.P.Roberts & Neubig. Two subspecies of Petradoria pumila are currently recognized: Petradoria pumila subsp. pumila and Petradoria pumila subsp. graminea (Wooton & Standl.) L.C.Anderson.
