About Persicaria sagittata (L.) H.Gross
Persicaria sagittata, commonly called American tearthumb, arrowleaf tearthumb, or arrowvine, is a plant species. It is widespread across the eastern half of North America and eastern Asia. In North America, it has been recorded in every state and province ranging from Texas to Manitoba, Newfoundland, and Florida, and also occurs in Colorado and Oregon. In Asia, it grows in China, the Russian Far East, Siberia, Korea, Japan, northern India, and Mongolia. This species grows in moist habitats such as lake shores and stream banks. It is an annual herb that can reach up to 200 cm (80 inches) in height, with prickles along its stems. Its leaves grow up to 10 cm (4 inches) long, and are shaped like hearts or arrowheads, which is unusual for its genus. Its flowers range from white to pink, and are carried in spherical to elongated clusters that are up to 15 mm (0.6 inches) long.
