About Persicaria posumbu (Buch.-Ham. ex D.Don) H.Gross
Persicaria posumbu is a species of flowering plant that belongs to the Polygonaceae family. It was first formally described under the name Polygonum posumbu in 1825, and was reclassified and transferred to the genus Persicaria in 1919. According to Plants of the World Online, P. posumbu has a discontinuous native distribution. Its native range is split between two separate areas: the western region includes the Assam region, Bangladesh, and the eastern Himalayas, while the eastern region includes Japan, Korea, the Kuril Islands, and Primorye. There is ongoing taxonomic confusion regarding the relationship between Persicaria posumbu and Persicaria cespitosa. Some botanical sources recognize P. cespitosa as a distinct, independent species, while other sources treat P. cespitosa as a taxonomic synonym of P. posumbu.
