About Persicaria orientalis (L.) Spach
Persicaria orientalis is a species of flowering plant in the Polygonaceae family, which goes by the common names kiss-me-over-the-garden-gate and princess-feather. It was first described in 1753 by Carl Linnaeus under the name Polygonum orientale. In 1841, Édouard Spach reclassified the species into the genus Persicaria, giving it the currently accepted scientific name Persicaria orientalis (L.) Spach. Its native origin is not definitively clear. As of April 2023, Kew's Plants of the World Online records its native distribution as stretching from the Russian Far East to Indochina, Malesia, and Australia. This species is widely cultivated and has become naturalized across many regions.
