About Perittia herrichiella (Herrich-Schäffer, 1855)
Perittia herrichiella is a moth species that belongs to the Elachistidae family. This moth is distributed across multiple regions: it occurs from Sweden and Finland south to the Pyrenees and Italy, and from France east to the Baltic region and Romania. It has also been documented in Russia and North America, where records exist from the U.S. states of New York, Indiana, and Michigan, and the Canadian province of Ontario. The species is expected to range across southeastern Canada, and the north-central and northeastern regions of the United States. The wingspan of adult Perittia herrichiella measures 8 to 9 mm. Adults are active in flight from May through August. The larvae of this moth feed on the plant species Lonicera alpigena, Lonicera periclymenum, Lonicera tatarica, Lonicera xylosteum, and Symphoricarpos albus. The larvae create mines inside the leaves of their host plants to feed. Depending on their location, larvae can be found from June to mid-August or to October.
