About Periparus venustulus (Swinhoe, 1870)
The yellow-bellied tit, scientifically known as Periparus venustulus, is a bird species belonging to the family Paridae. This species was first formally described by Robert Swinhoe in 1870. It is endemic to China. Its natural habitats are temperate forest and subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest located at altitudes below 2000 meters, and it can also be found in urban green spaces. Male yellow-bellied tits are highly territorial, but they show mutual respect for neighboring individuals. This phenomenon is called the "dear-enemy" effect, as these birds respect one another's territories and maintain stable neighborly relationships. Individual yellow-bellied tits typically show a preference for using one leg over the other, a trait known as "footedness".
