About Pentidotea wosnesenskii (Brandt, 1851)

Pentidotea wosnesenskii is a marine isopod that lives on seaweed on rocky shores. Its range extends along the coastlines of British Columbia and Washington, as far south as San Francisco. It is commonly found hiding under rockweed (Fucus distichus) in the intertidal zone, and can occur at depths of up to 919 metres (3,015 ft). This species was originally described as Idotea wosnesenskii in 1851 by Johann Friedrich von Brandt, and is named in honor of Russian biologist Ilya G. Voznesensky. This isopod grows to a maximum length of 4 centimetres (1.6 in) and is typically green in color. It is a prey species for the surf scoter.
