About Penthe pimelia (Fabricius, 1801)

Penthe pimelia, commonly known as the velvety bark beetle, is a species of polypore fungus beetle that belongs to the family Tetratomidae. This species is native to North America. It has a uniformly dark body, including a dark scutellum. This trait sets it apart from Penthe obliqiuata, the only other Penthe species found in North America, which has a distinct bright-orange scutellum.
