This species, commonly known as the longsnout boarfish, has the scientific name Pentaceropsis recurvirostris (Richardson, 1845). It reaches a maximum total length of 70 cm, which equals 28 inches. Its morphology includes a large, spiky dorsal fin that bears 10 to 11 spines, and a slightly forked tail. Its snout has an almost tubular shape, and it has a small mouth. The body of this fish is white, with two dark angled bands present on each side, plus an additional dark band that runs from the tip of the snout to the dorsal fin.
