About Pennisetia hylaeiformis (Laspeyres, 1801)
This moth species, Pennisetia hylaeiformis, has a wingspan ranging from 22 to 32 millimeters. Its forewings are brown, featuring a narrow transparent wedge-shaped area and a small three-cell outer window. In the hindwings, the veins M3 and Cu1 are long-stalked. The thorax is black, marked with a yellow collar and two yellow stripes on the mesonotum. Males have four equally wide yellow bands on abdominal segments IV through VII, while females only have three yellow bands on segments IV through VI, and have an orange-brown tail. Male antennae are cristate and shaped like double crescents; female antennae are setaceous. Caterpillars of this species are whitish with black heads. This species is distributed across most of North and Central Europe. It is also found in the Caucasus, Transcaspia, Siberia, Manchuria, and Japan.
