About Peniophora incarnata (Pers.) P.Karst.
Peniophora incarnata, with the scientific name Peniophora incarnata (Pers.) P.Karst., produces resupinate, adnate, membranous fruit bodies that reach up to 200 μm in thickness. These fruit bodies begin as small separate colonies, which may eventually grow together and coalesce. The hymenial surface of the fruit body is orange, red, or reddish-brown, and has a smooth, continuous, uncracked texture. The margin of the fruit body is thinner, curled, and colored white, pale orange, or red. The base of the fruit body is made up of brown hyphae that have clamp connections and moderately thick cell walls; these hyphae measure between 3.2 and 4.5 μm in width. The basidiospores of this species are cylindrical in shape. In ecological terms, Peniophora incarnata is sometimes parasitized by the yellow brain fungus, Tremella mesenterica.
