Penion mandarinus is a medium-to-large sized species of siphon whelk. It can be easily confused with the sympatric species Penion maximus. Compared to P. maximus, P. mandarinus is typically smaller, has a smoother shell, and has a shorter siphonal canal. This is a marine species, and it is endemic to Australia. It is found across New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, and Victoria within Australia.
