About Pempheris adspersa Griffin, 1927

Pempheris adspersa, commonly known as the New Zealand bigeye, has large eyes, as reflected in its common name. It possesses a deeply keeled, compressed body, with a dark base color covered entirely in small spots. This species can grow to a maximum length of 15.8 centimetres (6.2 inches) in standard length. The New Zealand bigeye is endemic to the northeastern coast of New Zealand’s North Island.
